Why Choose Cork and Natural Rubber

Our yoga mat is made from 100% plant based cork and latex free natural rubber that is 6P free. 6P is a type of toxic chemical called Phthalates and it is used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastic and vinyl. These chemicals are hazardous to your health and they are present in a lot of yoga and exercise mats.

Natural Cork

Cork is a natural raw material that is 100% biodegradable, recyclable and renewable. Cork is harvested by stripping the bark of the cork oak tree. Only about 50% of the bark is removed at the time of harvesting and can be harvested every 9 years until it is around 200 years old and as the tree regrows its bark, it absorbs up to 2 times more CO2 from the air providing a net positive effect towards combating global warming. Cork waste from production is also reused and ground to make other cork products.

Cork harvesting

Self-Cleaning and Antimicrobial – Cork is naturally antimicrobial. It contains compounds called phenolics which kills bacteria and fungus. Cork secretes an oil called suberin when it is wet that not only creates a grippy surface, but also inhibits growth of fungi, bacteria, and mold. This makes cork surfaces resistant to the growth and colonization of these organisms, clean and free from the odour of perspiration. It is ideal for people prone to allergic reactions. Cork does not absorb dust, so is ideal for use by people who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Elastic and Resilient – Cork has a honeycomb cell structure and it gives it an anti-static, water-resistant and resilient property. Each cell is a 14-sided polyhedron filled with air with an extremely strong and flexible membrane that is waterproof and airtight. The cork cell membranes are extremely flexible, compressible and elastic, so it tends to always return to its original shape, no matter the pressure. This cell structure also naturally insulates both hot and cold. In its natural state, cork is flame resistant, and these trees have a history of being sole survivors in natural forest fires due to their nearly impermeable outer protection system.

Light – It has such strong watertight cell membranes means that it will not absorb water and gain density or mass in humid conditions.

Impermeable – Cork has a magic chemical in its cell membrane that makes it completely impermeable to liquids and gases. This chemical is a mixture of fatty acids and heavy organic alcohol called “suberin” which, in addition to rendering cork impermeable also stops it from rotting or degrading over time.

Durable – Cork is extremely durable and has a high friction coefficient, so a cork yoga mat will survive repeated usage even in extreme conditions.

The Ehirim yoga mat is mad from 100% natural cork and natural rubber perfectly engineered and merged to be the perfect surface for your workout routines or yoga practices.

Natural Rubber

Natural rubber is anti-bacterial, biodegradable, dust mite resistant, sustainable and green. It is durable and hygienic for use indoors or outdoors, wet or dry. Natural rubber polymer has great natural elasticity and memory. The 100% pure rubber in our mat provides high traction for better grip of the supporting surface. The thickness of rubber also gives support and comfort to the user and this is good for maintaining positions and meditating for several hours.

Natural rubber tapping

The elasticity and memory of natural rubber helps reduce the amount of stress on joints. Our Yoga mat has also been improved with anti-tear technology that makes it last even longer.

There are certain questions people only ask when they go from theory to practice, and this is one of them. Cardio or weights? That means you’ve really started working out, and that’s fantastic. But now you’re facing the number one enemy in the fitness world –after laziness and a sweet tooth-, and it is gym myths. Now everybody will have a different answer to your questions, but most of them are not based on science. So, that’s precisely where we are going to start this time, and if the molecular jargon is not your thing, you can just skip it and go straight to the next subheading.

The science behind it all

Yes, there’s a scientific answer to this apparently simple question, but we promise we’re going to try to make it simple. There’s an enzyme in your muscles called AMP kinase, and if you ever thought you were a multitasker, you need to see this guy. The AMP-activated protein kinase is virtually everywhere and does everything in your muscles. Without it you could never have a good workout session, you would never have muscle gains or increase your endurance.

Since the AMP kinase is in charge of stimulating muscle gains and increasing your endurance at the same time, there’s no way it will do both things at the same time. In other words, you can’t expect to train for a marathon without reducing your muscle gains or pumping your muscles without slowing your endurance gains. This wonderful enzyme modulates muscle activity, and it is one of those guys having too much to do and only two hands. So, that’s why you need to choose where to keep your AMP kinase busy if you want excellent results.

So, what’s the answer?

In simple words, your muscles can focus either on increasing muscle mass or endurance, but not both at the same time. So, you need to focus on what’s most important for you. Do you want to build muscle or put down weight? Do you want to prepare for your next 5K marathon or pump your muscles for summer?

After setting your priorities straight, you have reached the answer yourself. If you want to be an excellent runner, go ahead and start with the treadmill, make your muscles regret the day they were born… or built… well, you understand what I mean. But if you want to be the best weightlifter or bodybuilder, go straight to the iron section and make the dumbbells sweat before starting your cardio.

Of course, there’s more to it than a simple answer, and you can benefit from both worlds by alternating cardio and weights first. But keep in mind you should always start with your priority. Another thing to note is that sometimes you might want to start with 5-10 minutes cardio to warm-up before your weight training, and you can rest assured that will not affect your gains.

Using The Wrong Gym Gloves Might Be Affecting Your Gains

When I first started going to the gym a lifetime ago I had no idea what I was doing; except I thought I did. That young, scrawny, version of me thought he had everything figured out and that he knew everything there was to know. I had answers, albeit the wrong ones, for everything. Which lifts to prioritize, how to split, what to eat, what to wear? In fact, I still remember what I told my brother, who did know what he was talking about, when he told me to buy a pair of gym gloves. I said, Tim, I’m not looking to win a pageant!

Boy was I wrong.

For those of us who frequently go to the gym to achieve big gains, weightlifting gloves are more than just an accessory. Gloves provide comfort while lifting your weights, for sure, but did you know that your gym gloves can also increase your muscle gains? They can, so let me tell you how because choosing the right gloves is extremely important. While some guys will give you flak for wearing them, legit bodybuilders and experienced fitness enthusiasts agree that selecting the right pair of gloves is the ultimate game changer in the pursuit of your goals.

Gym gloves that make the difference

Wearing specialized gloves for weightlifting improves your grip when handling dumbbells, bars, and pretty much everything else.  Get some quality gloves and you will notice the difference right away. Training will become more comfortable immediately. You might as well forget that palm sores, blisters, and other painful lesions exist. This is especially important if you happen to work in any field where your hands come into contact with other people on a regular basis. Imagine getting a massage from a masseuse with rough, callused, hands.

No matter how many times you hear the old joke about matching your gym gloves to your purse, get this through your head; weightlifting gloves not an aesthetic choice, they are about function.

Anybody who lifts heavier weights would agree that heavy loads can be really tough on your palms. Keeping a close grip with bare hands or, even worse, inadequate gloves can cause a lot of pain. Nobody likes pain, so once you start feeling it, chances are you will lower the weight in an attempt to get some relief.

Time and time again, I’ve seen people surprise themselves when they get some proper gloves and all of a sudden they are lifting beyond what they thought possible. It makes perfect sense, the less you have to focus on pain the more you can focus on proper grip, form, and muscle activation.

Another significant advantage to using gym gloves is that they protect you from accidents. I know gym accidents are rare, but trust me, when they do occur they can be devastating. Using them will reduce the risk of slips caused by sweat, which are potentially dangerous when performing certain types of exercise.

The bottom line is this: Gym gloves are not just for show; by enhancing your grip, gloves will increase your loads, help to prevent accidents and protect your palms from developing painful blisters and rough calluses.

Choosing the best pair of gloves

If you’re looking for the right pair of gloves, here are a few tips you should consider:

  • Look for gloves that have a long strap for wrist support. This makes maintaining proper technique throughout and reduces the chance of hurting your wrist.
  • Gloves should be padded to provide maximum cushioning and strain protection.
  • Gloves should have non-slip fabric to keep sliding to a minimum.
  • Avoid synthetic fibers since they will obstruct perspiration. Natural, breathable fabrics will keep your hands dry and your grip more secure.

One final recommendation to our readers: Don’t be THAT guy, wash your gloves. Wash them once a week to avoid foul sweat and gunk from building up. Nobody should have to smell your filthy mittens from across the room.

If you are still not convinced, just give it a try. Once you start lifting with the right pair of gloves you’ll be singing a different tune. I sure did. The moment I put on a pair of quality gloves for the first time was the moment I learned that I knew so much less than I thought I did. The simple act of purchasing a pair of properly fitting gloves will, singlehandedly, change the way you lift.

Trust me on this, you’ll be lifting more, training longer, and seeing more gains.
